QUETTA: The Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), Dr Naseem Baloch, has said that the Baloch people are facing what he described as systematic abductions and staged encounter killings, Saying Pakistani security agencies of targeting youth, students, political activists and civilians.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Dr Naseem Baloch stated that for decades the Baloch nation has endured repression. He said that state agencies, including the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), detain individuals who are later presented as militants and killed in what he termed “staged encounters.”
Referring to a recent incident in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town area, he mentioned the Sindh CTD’s claim that four Baloch youths were killed in an encounter. Among them, he said, was Hamdan, a student who had previously been reported missing. According to Dr Baloch, families and eyewitnesses believe the individuals were already in custody prior to the reported encounter.
He further stated that similar incidents have occurred in recent months in Panjgur, Mastung, Turbat, and Quetta. Citing figures from Paank, the human rights department of the BNM, he claimed that more than 200 civilians were killed in 2025 in what the organization describes as extrajudicial actions, many of whom had previously been listed as forcibly disappeared.
Dr Baloch also said that thousands of Baloch individuals remain missing, while families particularly women continue protests demanding information about their loved ones. He described the situation as an attempt to suppress what he called the Baloch national struggle.
In his statement, the BNM condemned what it termed ongoing human rights violations and appealed to the international community, including the United Nations, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International, to take notice of the situation and support calls for accountability.
