
KABUL: The Islamic State’s Khorasan branch (ISIS-K) has claimed responsibility for a bombing that took place at a restaurant in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul.
In a statement released by Amaq, a media outlet affiliated with Islamic State, the group said the attacker remained inside the restaurant for approximately 30 minutes before detonating an explosive vest. The statement said that Chinese nationals were the intended target of the attack.
ISIS-K also released an image of the attacker.
According to Afghan authorities, at least seven people were killed in the blast, including one Chinese national, while 20 others were injured. Security forces cordoned off the area following the explosion and launched an investigation.
Officials said further details are being gathered, and no additional official statement has yet been issued.
