
Sindh: Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS) Europe Chapter has strongly condemned the enforced disappearance of Sindhi student leader Ghani Aman by Pakistani security forces from Karachi on Tuesday evening.
According to confirmed reports, Mr. Aman, Chief Organizer of the Sindhian National Students Federation (SNSF) the student wing of the Sindhian National Congress was forcibly taken by personnel in civilian clothes backed by paramilitary Rangers from Memona Hospital, located on Shahrah-e-Quaideen near Tariq Road, Karachi. At the time of the incident, he was attending to his twin children admitted to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the perpetrators stormed into the hospital, intimidated patients, attendants and forcibly took Mr. Aman. The men also seized mobile phones belonging to Mr. Aman, his brother Safi Aman, sister Sindhu Aman and other relatives. Reports indicate that Mr. Aman was beaten, blindfolded and moved to an undisclosed location.
VMPS coordinator Sarang Sindhi, speaking from London, condemned the enforced disappearance as “a blatant violation of human rights and an attempt to silence peaceful dissent in Sindh.” He said that Mr. Aman is a non-violent political activist with a long-standing record of advocating for democracy and human rights. His sister, Sindhu Aman, serves as Vice Convener of VMPS and has been active in campaigns for missing persons in Sindh.
The Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (Europe Chapter) has urged Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in The Hague, the International Coalition Against Enforced Disappearances (ICAED) in Geneva, and other global human rights bodies and democratic governments to publicly condemn the enforced disappearance.
The group called on the Government of Pakistan to immediately disclose Mr. Aman’s whereabouts, ensure his safe release, and hold those responsible accountable under international human rights law.
