ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army has claimed to have killed 30 militants during clashes near the Afghan border, while five soldiers were killed in the exchange of fire.
According to the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incidents occurred on the night between October 24 and 25 when militants attempted to infiltrate Pakistan from across the Afghan border. The ISPR stated that two groups of militants tried to enter through the Gakhi area of Kurram district and the Spinwam area of North Waziristan, but security forces foiled the attempts through timely action.
The ISPR reported that 25 militants, including four suicide bombers, were killed in the clashes, while five security personnel embraced martyrdom.
The statement further noted that the infiltration attempts took place at a time when Pakistani and Afghan delegations were holding talks in Istanbul. The ISPR remarked that “such infiltration attempts raise questions about the intentions of the interim Afghan government,” urging Kabul to ensure full implementation of the Doha Agreement and prevent the use of Afghan soil against Pakistan.
It is worth noting that the Afghan Taliban government has repeatedly rejected Pakistan’s allegations of cross-border infiltration in the past.
