Doha: Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. The agreement was reached following negotiations mediated by Qatar and Turkey.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs both countries also agreed to continue talks to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire. The two sides have decided to develop a joint framework aimed at promoting lasting peace and regional stability.
The Qatar Foreign Ministry added that the agreement is expected to ease border tensions between the two nations. Pakistan and Afghanistan, it said, will now work together as brotherly countries to help establish peace in the region.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that “terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan will immediately come to an end and both neighboring countries will respect each other’s sovereignty.”
Khawaja Asif further announced that delegations from both sides will meet again on October 25 in Istanbul for detailed discussions.
It is worth noting that the Doha talks, held on Saturday, were led by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, accompanied by ISI Chief and National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Asim Malik. The Taliban delegation was headed by Afghanistan’s Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob, with Taliban intelligence chief Mawlawi Abdul Haq Wasiq also in attendance.
