Quetta: The central spokesman of the National Democratic Party has demanded the immediate public disclosure of details regarding the military operations underway in Zehri, Khuzdar. According to the spokesman, the area has effectively been placed under siege for several days, leaving residents without food, medical care and other basic necessities. Shutdowns of communications and severe restrictions on movement have made everyday life unbearable for civilians, and several families have suffered significant loss of life.
The spokesman said videos circulating on social media and reports from local sources allege that bombardment by state forces killed women and children; one witness is reported to have buried six family members and accused the security forces of the killings. The Balochistan High Court Bar Association has also condemned the demolition of Barrister Ali Zehri’s house in Zehri. Despite these reports, no detailed official statement has been released and the media has been denied access to the area.
The spokesman acknowledged that a state has the right to enforce the law, but emphasized that this does not justify violations of fundamental human rights. He said the use of force against ordinary civilians in the name of peace, stability, or national security cannot be justified. Practices such as enforced disappearances, curfew-like conditions, and collective punishment have become a chronic humanitarian tragedy in Balochistan and have severely eroded public trust.
Highlighting a widely seen pattern, the spokesman warned that when power is placed above justice, human dignity is the first casualty and said Balochistan is now living that reality. He called on authorities to make the Zehri operation transparent, to brief print and electronic media, and to grant journalists and humanitarian organizations access so the facts can come to light. He demanded that families of detained or forcibly disappeared persons be given immediate information, that medical and food assistance be provided to affected civilians, and that humanitarian access be restored.
The spokesman described the deaths of innocent children and women during the operation as part of an ongoing pattern of violence amounting to genocide against the Baloch people. He urged the authorities to end the Zehri operation and seek a political and democratic solution to the problem. He warned that if the situation is driven to a point of no return, the fallout from prolonged military operations will have serious consequences for the entire region and could create a large-scale human rights catastrophe.
