Quetta: Train services between Quetta and major Pakistani cities have been halted for more than 30 hours following an explosion on the railway track in Mastung’s Dasht area that caused five coaches of the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express to derail.
Railway officials said on Thursday that efforts were still underway to remove the damaged carriages and restore the line, but operations had not yet resumed. Because of the security risks, services of the Jaffar Express between Quetta and Peshawar were once again canceled.
The blast, which took place on September 23, left five passengers injured after the coaches went off track.
The separatist group Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) claimed responsibility, stating that a remote-controlled device was used to hit the train. The group also alleged that Pakistani army personnel were among the casualties.
