Karachi: Families of Missing Persons Continue Protest Despite Rain, Demand Recovery of Zahid Baloch

Karachi is facing heavy rains and flooding, yet even in this difficult weather, the families of missing persons refuse to abandon their protest for the recovery of their loved ones. Outside the Karachi Press Club, the family of missing youth Zahid Ali Baloch has been holding a sit-in for the past 15 days, declaring they will not end their protest until Zahid is released.

Zahid’s father, Hameed Baloch, speaking to the media during the rain on Tuesday, said his son was taken into custody by state officials on July 17 at around 5:30 p.m. while waiting for transport in Karachi and has been missing since.

He stated:“It has now been 33 days, but we still don’t know where our son is or in what condition.”

Hameed Baloch demanded that if there are any charges against Zahid, he should be presented before a court in accordance with the constitution and law. He said keeping a citizen disappeared without evidence or legal process is an unbearable trauma for the family.

He appealed to human rights organizations, civil society, journalists and the higher judiciary to play their role in ensuring the recovery of Zahid Ali Baloch and all other missing persons.
