QUETTA: The protest camp set up by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances in Balochistan entered its 5,901st day on Tuesday in front of the Quetta Press Club.
The family members of forcibly disappeared Abdul Razaq joined the protest, saying their participation was aimed at urging the government and heads of state institutions to take notice of his disappearance and play their role in ensuring justice under the country’s laws.
According to the family, on the night between May 24 and 25 this year, armed personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), dressed in black uniforms, detained Abdul Razaq, son of Israeel, along with his brother Muhammad Ishaq from their home in Mengalabad, Sariab Customs, in front of their relatives. Muhammad Ishaq was released after twelve days, but Abdul Razaq remains in the custody of state institutions.
VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch said the case of Abdul Razaq and his brother has been submitted to the commission on missing persons and the provincial government. While Muhammad Ishaq was recovered, Abdul Razaq is still missing.
He demanded that if there are any charges against Abdul Razaq, he should be produced in court and given the opportunity to defend himself under the law. If found guilty, he should be punished according to the country’s legal framework and the family would have no objection.
He further stated that keeping Abdul Razaq in enforced disappearance and denying his family any information about his whereabouts is a serious violation of the country’s laws and human rights. He condemned the act and demanded Abdul Razaq’s safe recovery.
