Quetta: A delegation from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), led by Chairman Asad Iqbal Butt, visited the protest camp of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) and expressed serious concern over the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances in Balochistan.
The delegation met with VBMP Chairman Nasrullah Baloch and the families of missing persons, including relatives of Abdul Ghani and Mehmood Ali Lango. Other delegation members included HRCP Vice Chairperson Munizae Jahangir, Saeeda Baloch, Habib Tahir, Kashif Panizai, Arifa Noor, and Malik Fareed Shahwani.
During the visit, Nasrullah Baloch briefed the delegation on the worsening human rights situation in Balochistan, particularly highlighting the increasing trend of enforced disappearances and alleged extrajudicial killings by state institutions. He claimed that such incidents have accelerated in recent months.
He also drew attention to the case of Mahjabeen, a Baloch student who has allegedly been forcibly disappeared. Nasrullah informed the delegation that despite over 40 days having passed, Mahjabeen has neither been presented in any court nor has her family been informed of her whereabouts.
Senior HRCP representatives expressed grave concern over the non-recovery of missing persons, the rising number of enforced disappearances, and reports of extrajudicial killings. They also condemned the continued silence and inaction regarding Mahjabeen’s case.
The delegation assured the affected families that the HRCP would raise the issue of human rights violations in Balochistan at every relevant forum, including federal and provincial governments, and will continue to advocate for justice and accountability.
