On July 4th, Balochistan witnessed a disturbing surge in road traffic accidents, with a total of 69 separate incidents reported across various national highways in a single day.
According to a report issued by the Medical Emergency Centers, at least 97 individuals were injured in these accidents. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Statistics reveal that the majority of accidents occurred along National Highways N-25 and N-50, where increasing traffic pressure, poor road conditions and inadequate safety measures have made accidents a daily occurrence.
The Trauma Center in Khuzdar received reports of 23 incidents, while Trauma Center Zhob treated 17 injured individuals, providing them with emergency medical care.
Experts have long warned that the rising number of road traffic accidents in Balochistan is a serious cause for concern. Key contributing factors include over-speeding, damaged and unmaintained roads, non-compliance with traffic regulations, and negligence on the part of road safety authorities.
Last month alone, 2,454 road accidents were reported across Balochistan, resulting in 3,449 injuries and 51 fatalities. The majority of these occurred along the N-25 and N-50 routes in Khuzdar, Zhob, Sibi, and Pishin, affecting dozens of families.
Despite official claims of road safety initiatives, public complaints point to continued government negligence, especially in ensuring basic infrastructure and emergency services on these critical highways.
Preliminary data suggests that in the first six months of 2025, Balochistan has already seen over 6,000 road accidents, with more than 7,000 people injured and over 100 fatalities reported. In comparison, 2024 saw 22,252 road accidents in the province, resulting in 402 deaths and 30,596 injuries.
The situation continues to raise alarm over the state’s failure to address fundamental issues of road safety, turning Balochistan’s highways into one of the most perilous travel routes in the country.
