Quetta: Family of Enforcedly Disappeared Mahjabeen Baloch Protest at Press Conference

Quetta (Special Correspondent) — The family of Baloch student Mahjabeen Baloch and her brother Mohammad Younis, both victims of enforced disappearance, held a press conference at the Quetta Press Club on Thursday, expressing strong protest and demanding their immediate release from state custody.

Addressing the media, the family members said, “This is not a new story, but a long-standing pain that has become a festering wound over the years. We stand before you once again with the hope that our silenced, ignored voices will finally be heard.”

The family, hailing from Besima in Balochistan, said they have been facing intense state repression for several years. “Our homes have been raided repeatedly, our loved ones abducted, and mutilated bodies have been dumped in desolate areas. Many are still missing in the shadows of enforced disappearance,” they said.

They informed the media that on the night of May 24, around 2 AM, Mohammad Younis, a student at Khuzdar Engineering University, was abducted from his home by Pakistani forces without any warrant or explanation. Then, on the night of May 28, his disabled sister, Mahjabeen Baloch, was also forcibly disappeared from Civil Hospital Quetta, where she was temporarily residing due to lack of hostel accommodation.

Mahjabeen is a student of BS Computer Science at the University of Balochistan and is physically disabled in one leg due to polio in childhood. The family questioned, “What law allows the abduction of a disabled student in the darkness of night?”

They added, “The enforced disappearance of a daughter is not just a single incident — it marks the beginning of the destruction of her entire life, including her dignity, safety, and right to live.”

The family called on the Government of Pakistan, human rights organizations, the media, and justice-seeking citizens to raise their voices against this oppression and ensure the immediate recovery of their missing loved ones.

In closing, the family said, “If we are not to be given the basic right to live, if our silence is to be crushed like this, then we would rather be killed once and for all. We can no longer endure this continuous life of fear, torment, and humiliation.”
