Quetta, May 28 — Baloch political leader advocate Raheem Baloch strongly condemned Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in the Ras Koh mountains of occupied Balochistan, calling them a “calculated and long-term act of Baloch genocide” by the Punjabi elite of Pakistan.
In a statement released on the 27th anniversary of the tests, Raheem Baloch said, “After decades of deception and lies to the international community, Pakistan carried out five nuclear explosions on May 28, 1998, contaminating the air and underground water of Balochistan specially in Chaghi, Dalbandin, Kharan, Noshki and surrounding areas—with deadly radioactive fallout.”
He further stated that the nuclear tests were not merely a military move, but a systematic plan to inflict generational harm on the Baloch people. “This was a cruel act aimed at ensuring that future generations of Baloch are born sick, disabled, and genetically affected by radiation. The Punjabi elite committed this in the name of strengthening Punjab’s defense against India.”
According to Raheem Baloch, the use of Balochistan’s land and airspace as a radioactive shield for Punjab exposes the deeply colonial mindset and policies of the Pakistani state. “From Chaghi to Bughlchor and the Koh-e-Suleiman range, Balochistan has been dangerously contaminated with nuclear radiation in the name of Punjabi nationalism and its hatred against India,” he added.
Concluding his statement, Raheem Baloch declared that “in order to save themselves from further destruction at the hands of the Punjabi establishment, the Baloch nation has no choice but to pursue independence. It is the only path toward a safe and dignified future.”
