Allegations by Pakistani Military Spokesperson Against Dr. Mahrang Baloch Are Baseless and Politically Motivated. Say Family Members

Quetta, Pakistan — The family members of Dr. Mahrang Baloch have strongly rejected recent allegations made by the spokesperson of the Pakistan Army during a press briefing, describing them as “false, baseless, and politically motivated.”

In an official statement issued yesterday, Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s family said the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) once again accused Dr. Mahrang and her peaceful movement, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), of involvement in violent activities. However, despite having access to advanced surveillance technologies, intelligence networks, and vast resources, the state has failed to present any credible or concrete evidence to support its claims.

“If Dr. Mahrang Baloch is indeed involved in any violent acts, why has the state not presented proof in court? Why is there an attempt to control the media instead of pursuing transparent legal procedures?” the statement questioned.

The family further noted that Dr. Mahrang Baloch is currently detained under the colonial-era law 3MPO (Maintenance of Public Order), which has repeatedly been criticized by the Supreme Court and various High Courts for its potential misuse by state authorities.

The statement also accused the DG ISPR of misrepresenting Dr. Baloch’s comments during a press conference following a violent incident in March. According to the family, a militant group had publicly claimed responsibility for the incident and released the names of 12 fighters involved. Twenty-three bodies were brought to the hospital afterward, many of which were buried in Quetta’s Qasim graveyard at night without identification.

Dr. Baloch, the family clarified, never demanded the return of militants’ bodies. Instead, she called for identification and DNA testing of those buried without recognition a demand rooted in the broader context of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.

The family also revealed they are considering legal action against the allegations made by the military spokesperson.

In conclusion, the statement said, “We have been denied access to media, justice, and a fair judicial process. This is a clear case of state oppression, and we will expose it at the international level.”
