Mir Ali: Sit-In Continues for Fifth Day After Drone Strike Kills Four Children

In Mir Ali, a sub-division of North Waziristan, a sit-in protest continues for the fifth consecutive day following the deaths of four children in a reported drone strike. The families of the victims, along with local tribespeople, remain camped out in protest, demanding justice and accountability.

According to sources, two of the deceased children were buried on Wednesday, while the bodies of the other two remain in coffins inside a local mosque.

The protest, led by local tribal and political leaders, has drawn a significant number of participants. Demonstrators are calling for a transparent investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be brought to justice.

Maulana Baitullah, spokesperson for the Utmanzai tribe and a member of the jirga, stated that negotiations were held on Thursday with government officials at the Governor’s Cottage in Miranshah. During the talks, a proposal was made to form an investigative commission, which is expected to submit its report within a week.

He also noted that the tribes have demanded the transfer of security officials involved in the area, but authorities have yet to respond clearly.

Maulana Baitullah emphasized that the sit-in will continue until all demands are met. He warned that if negotiations fail, the next step could be to stage protests in Islamabad or Peshawar.
