Quetta – The Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has strongly condemned the recent press conference held by Pashtun student organizations, calling it a “regrettable move” aimed at inciting discord between two historically brotherly and oppressed nations—Baloch and Pashtun.
In an official statement, the BSO spokesperson emphasized the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the Baloch and Pashtun peoples, citing a shared history of unity and resistance against external aggressors ranging from Sikh invaders to British colonial forces. “The need for unity and mutual support is more urgent than ever in today’s challenging times,” the statement read.
The spokesperson criticized the press conference as a politically motivated attempt to create ethnic division under the guise of protesting civil service commission results. “BSO has no affiliation or vested interest with any state institution or bureaucracy. However, using the commission results to ignite linguistic and ethnic tensions is a shameful act,” the organization said.
The BSO further highlighted contradictions in the statements made by the Pashtun student organizations. “On one hand, they demand an end to the district quota system in favor of provincial merit in education and employment. But when more Baloch candidates succeed in Baloch-majority regions, they cry foul and call it corruption. Interestingly, they have no objection when Pashtun candidates dominate in areas they claim as Pashtun-majority, like the Quetta division.”
The statement also addressed historical and demographic disputes, refuting the narrative that Baloch are made a majority through manipulated census data. “Claims that Pashtuns are the majority in this artificially created ‘British Balochistan’ are misleading. Areas such as Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Quetta, Sibi, Nushki, and Chagai are Baloch-majority regions that were also part of this construct. The Baloch have never made territorial claims on historical Pashtun lands, nor are we an expansionist nation,” the spokesperson added.
The BSO concluded by stating that the organization harbors no conflict with the Pashtun nation as a whole and emphasized that both nations cannot afford internal divisions at this critical historical juncture. However, they warned that any attempt to alter the historical and geographical identity of Balochistan would be firmly resisted.
