Quetta, April 28, 2025 — Nadia Baloch, sister of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, has stated that the Balochistan High Court today conducted hearings on three important cases concerning the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and its detained leadership.
In the first case, related to the latest 3MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) charges against Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the court reserved its judgment, which is expected to be announced tomorrow.
In the second case, regarding Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s safety and security inside the jail, the court directed the Home Department and prison authorities to ensure her complete protection.
The third case involved a petition requesting that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shah Ji not be transferred to another prison. The court accepted the request and ordered that both detainees remain in their current jail. Due to the absence of a national identity card, Gul Zadi Baloch’s sister could not be included in this particular petition.
Meanwhile, Advocate Sajid Tareen had filed a separate petition challenging the arrest of 92 political activists under the 3MPO, including names like Beebow Baloch and others. The court instructed the Balochistan government to immediately release all minors and those unlawfully detained. If full release is not possible, the government must submit a report explaining the reasons.
BNP leader, lawyer, and BYC’s legal counsel Advocate Sajid Tareen shared on his official “X” (formerly Twitter) account that after today’s arguments, the Balochistan High Court ordered the provincial government to release Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebow Baloch, Mama Ghafar, and more than 92 activists detained under 3MPO by tonight and present a compliance report to the court tomorrow.
It should be noted that a few weeks ago, the Balochistan High Court had rejected Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s bail application and referred the case for further action to the Balochistan Home Secretary.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a prominent Baloch rights activist, along with Beebow Baloch and others, were arrested on March 22, 2025, during a peaceful protest in Quetta. They were charged under the controversial 3MPO law, often used in Pakistan to detain political activists without formal trial.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebow Baloch, Gul Zadi Baloch, Shah Ji Sibghatullah, Bibarg Baloch, and several other BYC leaders and activists remain in police custody, having been arrested at different times.
