Karachi (Monitoring Desk): The police have filed a case under Section 144 against 13 individuals, including Lala Wahab, Sammi Deen Baloch and others, for their involvement in protests against the police brutality, killings and the arrests of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leaders.
Karachi Police launched an operation targeting the protestors, arresting several leaders of the organization along with numerous individuals during the demonstrations held in response to the violence against protestors in Balochistan and the detention of BYC leaders.
The Sindh Police have filed a case under Section 144 against protestors including Sammi Deen Baloch, Lala Wahab Baloch, Razak, Shahdad, Sultan and others.
Protestors have stated that Section 144 is non-cognizable, meaning the police cannot arrest anyone without a warrant or file an FIR under this section, making the case filed against them illegal.
Lawyers argue that several decisions by higher courts confirm that the police do not have the authority to arrest anyone under this case. However, they believe the police are being pressured by intelligence agencies to take these actions.
Meanwhile, while many of the arrested protestors have been released, the leadership of the BYC and the other 13 individuals remain in police custody.
