
A murder case has been registered against Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the head of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and several leaders and activists of the organization in connection with the killing of three individuals during security forces’ firing on protesters in Quetta.
The case includes several sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act along with other charges. So far, three cases have been registered against BYC in Quetta.According to police, three FIRs have been filed against Dr. Mahrang Baloch and BYC leaders in Civil Lines, Brewery, and Sariab police stations.
An FIR registered at Sariab police station on March 22 includes Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and Section 11-W, along with 16 sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). These sections cover terrorism, murder, attempted murder, inciting violence and rebellion, spreading ethnic hatred and damaging property.
The BYC leadership, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, has been accused of orchestrating the firing on police officers, bystanders, and fellow protesters, resulting in the killing of three individuals and injuring 15 police officers and others. Other prominent BYC members named in the case include Bebo Baloch, Gulzadi Satakzai, Sabiha Baloch, Sibghattullah Baloch, Gulzar Dost, Riaz Gishkori, Dr. Shali Baloch, and Dr. Benazir.
Additional Cases Against BYC Leaders
Dr. Mahrang Baloch and BYC leaders have also been charged with storming Civil Hospital Quetta and forcibly taking away the bodies of alleged attackers of the Jaffar Express train attack. According to an FIR registered at Civil Lines police station, around 100 to 150 individuals, allegedly under BYC’s directive, attacked Civil Hospital Quetta on Wednesday evening, broke into the mortuary, and forcibly took away the bodies of the alleged attackers.
The FIR also alleges that the accused stopped a private ambulance at Hockey Chowk, assaulted its driver, and loaded the bodies into the vehicle before leaving. The charges include sedition, rioting, illegal gathering, obstructing police duty, spreading ethnic hatred, damaging public property, and violating Section 11-W of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
In another case, an FIR has been registered at Brewery police station on the complaint of SHO Mehmood Khuruti against BYC leader Gulzadi Baloch, Ali Jan (alias Panel), Shoaib, Syed Noor Shah, Waheed, Jehanzaib, Zohaib Baloch and over 100 others.
This case accuses the BYC activists of blocking the Western Bypass Road in Quetta on Saturday, chanting slogans against the state and its institutions and inciting public unrest.
BYC Rejects Charges, Vows to Continue Protests
In response, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee has strongly rejected the false cases and FIRs, declaring them as part of state oppression. The organization has vowed to continue its protests against state repression.
