Quetta: Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch has reacted to the execution of Zahid Kurd’s brother in Naal.
She said “Today, in the Naal Khuzdar, Shah Jan Baloch, the brother of Zahid Baloch, who has been forcibly disappeared for 11 years, was murdered in broad daylight. Shah Jan Baloch had no affiliation with any political organization, nor was he involved in any political or human rights activities. He was a local trader and the sole provider for his family. His only ‘crime’ was being the brother of a student leader, who himself has been in the custody of Pakistani intelligence agencies for the past eleven years.”
She further stated that the state not only kills those who demand their rights and dissent in Balochistan but also targets their family members, even those who have no connection to politics or human rights activism. Shah Jan Baloch’s case, along with hundreds of similar incidents, stands as undeniable proof of this oppression.
“For the past two decades, not a single day has passed in Balochistan without our loved ones being forcibly disappeared, subjected to extrajudicial killings, or targeted assassinations. Today, there isn’t a single household in Balochistan that has not been affected by this oppression, yet no one outside the Baloch community seems to notice.”
Dr. Mahrang Baloch revealed that in just the first three months of 2025, more than three dozen people have been extrajudicially killed in Balochistan. Just today, in Naal, Khuzdar, a young man named Shah Jan Baloch was deliberately targeted and assassinated.
“However, we do not settle for mere condemnations. Instead, we protest against this brutality, lawlessness and demand justice and accountability. We understand that condemnation is nothing more than a formality, it neither resolves longstanding issues nor brings true justice. Rather, it serves as a means to give the country’s powerful rulers a free pass, rulers who disregard law, ethics and human rights, and use condemnation as a shield to hide their failures, oppression and brutality.”
She emphasized that only when laws are enforced and genuine accountability begins will injustices cease. But instead of ensuring justice, the state keeps the public distracted with condemnations, shifting focus away from the real issues while masking its own incompetence.
Dr. Mahrang Baloch also urged the Baloch nation not to succumb to the pressure of external elements who remain blind to the oppression, violence and killings inflicted upon the Baloch, yet attempt to dictate the course of their struggle and demand selective condemnations.
She said, “Our true strength and resilience come from the people of Balochistan, who live with the constant fear that those who leave their homes in the morning may not return safely by evening. If you stand firm, the world will be forced to acknowledge our peaceful struggle. Condemnation is merely a superficial reaction, our goal is justice, and we must determine our path ourselves, not based on the directives of those who are oblivious to our suffering.”
