Abdul Ghafoor Baloch, the captive leader of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), lost his mother on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, due to the prolonged sorrow of her separation from him. Abdul Ghafoor was arrested by the Pakistani Security Forces on December 26, 2009 and has been forcibly disappeared ever since.
In a statement, the spokesperson of BNM expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Abdul Ghafoor’s mother and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The death of Abdul Ghafoor’s mother symbolizes the collective grief of the parents of thousands of enforcedly disappeared individuals in Balochistan, who, after waiting for their missing loved ones, have passed away without any answers. Abdul Ghafoor has been held in undisclosed conditions in Pakistani military torture cells for the past 15 years.
The spokesperson further stated that Abdul Ghafoor was forcibly disappeared for the second time in December 2009, and he forcibly detained. Before that, he had also been subjected to enforced disappearance but, despite the torture, refused to back down from his struggle after his release. For his affiliation with BNM and his participation in the struggle for national freedom, he has been imprisoned for the past 16 years, with no information available regarding his health or life.
The spokesperson emphasized that BNM will continue to present the ongoing state oppression against the Baloch nation through credible documentation to international organizations. Abdul Ghafoor Baloch, Dr. Deen Muhammad, Ramzan Baloch and Hasil Hasrat are among the BNM’s imprisoned activists, who have been part of the thousands of enforcedly disappeared Baloch individuals for decades. Pakistan continues to use enforced disappearance as a tactical weapon against the Baloch nation to deter them from their struggle for freedom.
