The Karachi Police and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have launched a violent crackdown on a peaceful mobilization campaign by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).
The crackdown occurred when BYC members and participants gathered at Miran Naka near Liyari for a planned event in Dalbandin on January 25th.
Police Brutality and Arrests:
The Sindh Police met the gathering with force, resorting to baton charges and indiscriminate arrests. Several prominent BYC members, including Lala Wahab Baloch (Central Deputy Organizer), Sammi Deen Baloch, Fouzia Baloch, and Amna Baloch, were detained.
Sammi Deen Baloch, who narrowly escaped an assassination attempt the previous day, is being held at the Karadar Police Station in solitary confinement, raising serious concerns about her safety. Lala Wahab Baloch is being held at the Chakiwara Police Station.
Targeting of Baloch Citizens:
The police action specifically targeted Baloch citizens in the area, creating a climate of fear and intimidation. Reports indicate harassment and threats against detainees.
Pattern of Repression:
This incident is seen as part of an ongoing pattern of repression against the Baloch people and human rights defenders in Pakistan.
Call to Action:
The BYC has issued an urgent appeal to the Baloch and other communities to mobilize and gather at the Karadar and other police stations to demand the release of the detained activists and an end to the ongoing repression against the Baloch people.
