TURBAT, Balochistan: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) Kech Zone said the state imposed Section 144 in Turbat starting Wednesday in order to prevent a planned BYC protest in the city on Thursday.
According to BYC, its member Syeda Bibi Baloch was arrested from her home late Wednesday night “without any legal justification,” with authorities reportedly telling her family she would be released after 24 hours following the conclusion of the protest.
BYC said an effective curfew has been imposed across the city on Thursday, with mobile network and internet services suspended. The group also reported that more than a dozen additional individuals have been arrested, according to information it says it has received.
In its statement, BYC characterized these measures as reflecting “the unrestrained use of state power and openly repressive policies.” The group alleged that the judiciary is being used to issue “arbitrary rulings against political opponents,” while peaceful public opposition to those same rulings is being suppressed “through arrests, restrictions, shelling, and fear.”
BYC said these developments demonstrate that the state is “in a political and moral crisis” and is “extremely fearful” of the group’s public support.
