BYC Submits Documented Report on Enforced Disappearances to Balochistan Government

BYC

QUETTA, Balochistan, The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has formally submitted a detailed documentation report on enforced disappearances in Balochistan to the provincial government, urging authorities to take concrete and lawful action to resolve hundreds of outstanding cases. The submission was made through the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Secretary Home, and was received on 23 April 2026 by the office of Hamza Shafqat.

The report, compiled from direct testimonies of affected families and community sources, covers the period from 2025 through the first quarter of 2026. According to the submission, more than 1,250 enforced disappearances were documented throughout 2025, while 231 additional cases were recorded between January and March 2026. Accounts consistently describe the disappearances occurring during raids and intelligence-based operations, frequently carried out in the presence of family members and often accompanied by physical and verbal abuse.

Of those documented, approximately 400 individuals from 2025 and 75 from the first three months of 2026 have since been released after short-term disappearances, while some have been formally charged and placed in detention. However, 821 individuals from 2025 and 142 from early 2026 remain missing, with their families still uninformed of their whereabouts or condition, bringing the total number of unaccounted persons to 963.

The BYC stated that the submission aims to address longstanding uncertainty and discrepancies regarding the true scale of enforced disappearances in Balochistan by placing verified, case-based evidence before responsible authorities. The organisation also cautioned that the documented figures represent only cases reported and verified through available channels, warning that many additional cases may remain undocumented due to limited access and resources.

“Timely and serious action on this matter would not only bring relief to affected families but also contribute to upholding fundamental principles of justice, human dignity, and the rule of law in Balochistan,” the committee stated. The BYC expressed hope that the formal submission would encourage authorities to take measurable steps toward resolving each documented case in accordance with constitutional and legal obligations.

No official response from the Balochistan Home Department had been received at the time of publication.
