BYC Says State Institutions Playing Active Role in Oppression of Baloch People

QUETTA: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has issued a statement saying that state institutions are playing an active role in what it described as the oppression of the Baloch people, calling the situation a “system of oppression” in Balochistan.

In its statement, BYC said that institutions including the media, courts and other government bodies have become complicit in perpetuating injustice. The organization claimed that state media outlets are promoting what it called the oppressor’s narrative while distorting the voices of the oppressed, adding that content provided by state institutions is broadcast without independent investigation or scrutiny.

According to BYC, the role of the media in representing truth and giving voice to marginalized communities has effectively diminished in Balochistan. The committee further said that media anchors operate under external influence, contributing to the spread of one-sided narratives.

The statement also raised concerns about the judicial system, with BYC saying that courts have failed to deliver justice and instead provide legal justification for actions taken against the Baloch population. It described the judiciary as ineffective in addressing grievances and ensuring accountability.

BYC stated that its leadership has been in detention for nearly a year, which it termed as unlawful, adding that no major institution has spoken out against the situation. The organization expressed concern over what it called the continued silence of both media and courts regarding the matter.

Calling on the public, BYC appealed to the Baloch nation to raise their voices for the “safe and immediate release” of its detained leadership. It emphasized that when institutions remain silent, public response becomes the only remaining path to seek justice.
