QUETTA: The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has announced a month-long international campaign aimed at highlighting the issues of national freedom, collective punishment, enforced disappearances, and the alleged illegal detention of political and human rights activists in Balochistan.
According to a statement issued by the organisation, the campaign will run from 10 March to 9 April and will include a series of activities at the international level.
BNM said the campaign will feature two international conferences, protest demonstrations, a public rally and advocacy efforts during the sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The organisation stated that the purpose of these activities is to draw the attention of the international community, human rights organisations, and policymakers to the human rights situation in Balochistan.
According to the statement, political workers, students, and civil society activists in Balochistan continue to face arbitrary arrests, collective punishment of families and prolonged detention without due legal process.
BNM said it believes these violations are linked to Pakistan’s policies in Balochistan. The movement added that the ongoing tensions and human rights concerns are rooted in a long-standing political dispute over the status of the region.
The organisation further stated that a just and lasting resolution to the crisis requires recognition of the Baloch people’s right to freedom and self-determination, along with an end to policies that result in repression and collective punishment.
During the campaign period, BNM said it will also work with Baloch diaspora communities and international human rights advocates to raise the issue at global forums and seek greater international attention to the situation in Balochistan.
The movement also called on Baloch activists and members of the diaspora to actively participate in the campaign. Supporters were encouraged to join planned activities where possible and to contribute through social media and online platforms to help raise awareness.
BNM said further details about the conferences, protests, rally, and advocacy activities will be announced in the coming days.
