QUETTA: Dozens of government employees protesting in support of their demands were arrested in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.
In view of the protest, mobile phone internet services were suspended across Quetta city.
Government employees across Balochistan have been protesting for the approval of the Disparity Reduction Allowance, due to which routine activities in many government offices have come to a standstill.
An alliance of employees’ organizations had announced a sit-in protest today in the Red Zone of Quetta to press for the acceptance of their demands. For this purpose, a large number of government employees from across Balochistan arrived in Quetta.
However, to prevent the protesters from entering the Red Zone, authorities had sealed the area overnight by placing containers, completely blocking access routes.
As roads leading to the Red Zone were closed, the protesting employees began gathering outside the Quetta Press Club. Police did not allow them to assemble there either and arrested dozens of government employees from the area.
Following the arrests, the Grand Alliance announced the launch of a “jail-filling movement” in protest.
Meanwhile, as part of security measures, mobile phone internet services were suspended in Quetta city and surrounding areas in the afternoon. The suspension caused significant inconvenience and difficulties for internet users.
