Balgatar, Kech: The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibility for a major attack on a Pakistani Army post in the Tash area of Balgatar along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), saying its fighters seized the post after a prolonged assault.
In a statement issued by BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch, the group said its fighters launched the operation at around 5:00 p.m. on October 7, using modern and heavy weapons. The fighting continued for more than three hours, after which the BLF said it took full control of the post and captured weapons and other military equipment.
The statement alleged that 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed and four were seriously wounded during the operation.
According to the BLF, units of the army’s Quick Response Force were dispatched from Panjgur to assist the post. Those reinforcements, the statement said, were supported by two quad-copters and a surveillance drone. The BLF claimed its fighters ambushed the reinforcements, forcing them to withdraw, and shot down two quad-copters and one surveillance drone.
The group further announced that Abdullah Mayar, also known as Soghat, a fighter attached to the BLF’s Qurban Unit, was killed in the fighting. The statement said Abdullah Mayar had joined the organization a year earlier and because of his dedication and battlefield skills, had become a member of the frontline Qurban Unit. It listed several operations in which he had allegedly taken part including actions in Turbat, Parom, Kolwah, Gorkop, Jhao, Shapuk and Balgatar and described his death in the Balgatar engagement as martyrdom.
The BLF’s statement praised the operation as a successful guerrilla action that, it said, had put the state under psychological strain and demonstrated the group’s operational capabilities along the CPEC route. The group warned that coordinated attacks against what it described as forces and projects serving the Pakistani military would continue until the claimed objective of an independent Balochistan was achieved.
The BLF said it accepts responsibility for the seizure of the post in Balgatar, the killing of 14 soldiers, the wounding of four others, and the capture of military equipment. The statement concluded by paying tribute to the fallen fighter Abdullah Maiar.
