Paris: Dr. Naseem Baloch, Chairman of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), has issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) marking the ninth anniversary of the enforced disappearance of Shabir Baloch, the former Central Information Secretary of BSO-Azad.
Shabir was forcibly abducted on October 4, 2016, from Gwarkop, Kech, by Pakistani security forces. Since then, his family and loved ones have lived in “unending agony,” Dr. Naseem said, emphasizing that Shabir’s only “crime” was his peaceful commitment to the struggle for the rights and freedom of the Baloch people.
In his statement, the BNM Chairman highlighted the resilience of Shabir’s sister, Seema Baloch and his wife, Zarina, who for nine years have transformed their pain into resistance. “They have marched, protested and set up protest camps in scorching heat and freezing cold, demanding justice and Shabir’s safe release,” Dr. Naseem wrote, adding that Seema has raised her child while carrying the burden of an absent brother.
“Each year that passes is a reminder not only of the brutality of enforced disappearances but also of the unbreakable courage of Baloch women who refuse to be silenced,” the statement read.
Dr. Naseem stressed that Shabir’s case symbolizes the collective suffering of thousands of Baloch families who continue to wait between hope and despair. “Nine years without Shabir is not just the story of one man’s disappearance, but a reflection of a nation’s pain under occupation, where love, family, and youth are being crushed under military oppression.”
