The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) marked the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances at its Karachi office on Friday.
A meeting was held on the occasion, where speakers described enforced disappearances as a serious violation of the Constitution and human rights. They emphasized the need for practical steps to end the practice.
The session was moderated by Sadia Baloch. Human rights activist Dr. Tauseef, Aurat Foundation Director Mehnaz Rehman and senior journalist Sohail Sangi addressed the gathering. They urged state institutions to immediately put an end to this unlawful practice and ensure that missing persons are produced before the courts.
Families of missing Baloch persons also shared their painful experiences and demanded justice. Relatives of Zahid Baloch, Sarfaraz Baloch, Shiraz Baloch and Selan Baloch said that despite the passage of several years, no progress has been made regarding the recovery of their loved ones, leaving them in severe psychological and financial distress.
Representatives of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee, including Central Deputy Organizer Lala Wahab Baloch, Usman Baloch, Zahid Bugti and Khaliq Junjeo, also attended the meeting.
The HRCP called on the government to introduce clear legislation and effective measures to permanently end enforced disappearances and provide justice to affected families.
