Quetta: Baloch political worker Ghafar Qambrani, who had been detained in Quetta for four months without any charges, was released today. However, his daughter Beebow Baloch and other leaders of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) remain in custody.
It should be noted that BYC leaders were arrested on 20 March 2025 under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law. Among them are Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other activists, who were taken into custody during a peaceful protest in Quetta. Authorities accused them of planning an attack on Quetta Civil Hospital and inciting violence. In addition, cases of terrorism and sedition were also registered against them.
Despite the release of Ghafar Qambarani, concerns remain over the continued detention of BYC leaders and the safety and wellbeing of their families. Human rights organizations continue to demand their immediate release.
