Quetta: BNP President Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal was stopped from traveling abroad on Friday after Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials offloaded him from a Dubai-bound flight at Quetta International Airport.
According to FIA sources, Akhtar Mengal’s name appeared on the “Person Not In List” (PNIL), a no-fly category that restricts individuals from leaving the country. He was prevented from boarding the flight during routine immigration checks and asked to disembark.
Mengal, a prominent political figure and former chief minister of Balochistan, had reportedly been scheduled to travel to Dubai on a private airline.
The BNP leadership strongly condemned the move, calling it an attack on democratic rights. Party members described the action as “unjust” and said it reflected a broader pattern of restricting political freedom in the country.
