Balochistan: Armed resistance in Balochistan saw a sharp escalation in May 2025, with Baloch insurgent groups reportedly carrying out 202 operations across the region. These actions targeted Pakistani forces, their local collaborators, military installations, and state-owned assets. According to statements issued by various organizations, a total of 191 personnel were claimed killed, with many more injured.
Spokespersons of the insurgent groups released details of the operations, claiming that several state weapons were seized and government infrastructure was severely damaged during the attacks.
Baloch Liberation Army (BLA):
111 Attacks, 135 Claimed Killed
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) reported the highest number of operations. According to its spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, the group carried out 111 attacks in May, targeting military posts, convoys, and installations. They claimed to have killed over 135 personnel and injured many others. The BLA also stated it had seized large quantities of weapons and other military equipment.
Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF):
77 Attacks, 47 Claimed Killed
The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for 77 operations during the same period, stating that over 47 personnel and state-backed individuals were killed. According to the BLF, several state installations were destroyed or set ablaze during the attacks. The group, which operates across Balochistan, is considered one of the more organized militant forces targeting both Pakistani troops and Chinese-backed projects.
Other Armed Groups:
14 Attacks, 9 Claimed Killed
Other Baloch resistance groups including Baloch Liberation Army (Azad faction), United Baloch Army (UBA), Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), and Baloch Nationalist Army (BNA) collectively claimed 14 attacks, resulting in at least 9 deaths.
According to the monthly report, 15 Baloch fighters were martyred during clashes with state forces throughout May. The groups described their sacrifices as a “great national investment in the path to freedom.”
