JIWANI, Balochistan, 11 October 2026: The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility on Sunday for an attack on two Pakistani coast guard boats in the Jiwani area of Gwadar, saying 13 personnel were killed.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, the group said its maritime unit, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), carried out a “coordinated” attack that simultaneously targeted two large boats of the coast guards. It said the personnel were killed on the spot.
The BLA said it formally announced the creation of the HMDF as its maritime wing on 13 April 2026. It claimed the unit’s first operation took place a day earlier, on 12 April, at Mil Tiyab in Jiwani, when it attacked a navy patrol boat and killed three navy personnel.
The group said it named the unit after Hammal Jeeyand Baloch, a 16th-century Baloch figure whom it described as a leader of maritime resistance against Portuguese colonial forces. It said the force aims to defend the Baloch coastline and its resources.
The BLA said further details would be released to the media soon.
