LONDON, UK, 10 October 2026: A Sindhi human rights campaigner says Pakistani state authorities are subjecting political activists in Sindh to systematic persecution, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings.
Sarang Sindhi, Europe Chapter Coordinator of Voice for Missing Persons of Sindh (VMPS), made the remarks at the 38th International Conference of the World Sindhi Congress (WSC) in London. He was speaking at the University of Westminster during a session titled “The Role of Sindhi Diaspora Organizations in the Self-Determination of Sindh.”
He called for international solidarity and accountability over what he describes as a continuing human rights crisis in Sindh.
Sarang Sindhi says Sindhis and other nations, including Baloch, Pashtuns, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Gilgitis and Baltis, have faced political repression and denial of basic rights since the partition of the subcontinent. He describes this as “Punjabi imperialism and Pakistani occupation” and says self-determination is the only lasting solution.
He says the Sindhi national movement has campaigned under the banner of Jeay Sindh since 1973. Thousands of political workers have reportedly been arrested or forcibly disappeared, he says, while hundreds have been killed extrajudicially.
According to VMPS records, more than 3,600 Sindhi activists have gone missing in recent years and more than 100 have allegedly been killed in extrajudicial killings. He also points to the 2024 killing of VMPS patron Hidayatullah Lohar, saying those responsible have not been brought to justice.
VMPS has campaigned against enforced disappearances and rights violations since 2017, he says. Since last year it has expanded its advocacy to London, Brussels, The Hague and Geneva. He thanked Sindhi diaspora organisations for their support in drawing international attention to victims and their families.
Sarang Sindhi welcomed a WSC proposal to unite diaspora organisations in a coordinated campaign for Sindh’s self-determination. He says VMPS is ready to join any committee or platform committed to defending human rights, ending enforced disappearances, securing justice for victims, holding perpetrators accountable and upholding the Sindhi people’s right to self-determination.
