Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Kech and Gwadar; Drainage and Restoration Efforts Underway

Rain in Balochistan

BALOCHISTAN: Heavy rainfall in various districts of Balochistan, particularly Kech and Gwadar, has severely disrupted daily life. Due to a strong western weather system, intense rains were recorded across the Makran Division, resulting in flooding in low-lying areas, damage to roads, and widespread power outages in several regions.

In Turbat, the central city of Kech, the Municipal Corporation has launched emergency operations to drain accumulated rainwater. According to officials, staff equipped with machinery are actively engaged in water drainage, clearing mud, and restoring road conditions in multiple areas, with efforts still ongoing.

Sources indicate that immediate repair work on damaged roads has also been initiated. Teams from Deta Farm Turbat have completed repair and restoration work at various locations between Airport Road and D-Baloch Road, including filling potholes and rehabilitating road surfaces. The administration stated that providing improved travel facilities to citizens remains a priority, and all available resources are being utilized for infrastructure restoration.

In the Bhaman area of Kech, rainwater from seasonal streams entered residential homes, causing significant difficulties for local residents. In response, joint teams from the district administration, PDMA, and the Municipal Corporation visited several affected areas including Dank, Bhaman and Shahi Tump to assess the damages.

Following the rains on Friday, March 27, the water level in Mirani Dam has risen to 242 feet, raising hopes for improvement in water reserves.

In the Washto Bazaar area of Turbat, heavy rainfall led to the accumulation of over three feet of water, posing risks of damage to homes and shops. Local residents have demanded immediate drainage measures.

Meanwhile, the Turbat-Bela Road has been affected at multiple points, where incidents of landslides and ground subsidence have been reported, particularly near bridges where conditions are described as concerning. Public circles have also expressed concerns over the poor construction quality of the road.

In Gwadar, heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds was recorded in areas including Jiwani, Paleri, Peshkan, Chab Rekani, Serbandan, and the city itself. In Peshkan, strong winds dislodged solar panels installed on rooftops, while power poles collapsed at several locations, plunging areas into darkness.

The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in view of potential flooding in hilly areas.
