QUETTA: Nadia Baloch, sister of Dr. Mahrang Baloch, the detained leader of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, stated in a video message that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and his political colleagues Baberg Baloch, Shah Ji Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Beebow Baloch have been illegally detained and judicial proceedings against them are being conducted under state pressure.
According to Advocate Nadia Baloch, Dr. Mahrang Baloch was arrested in March 2025 under Section 3 of the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order). Within three months, the government filed over 40 cases against her across various districts, including Noshki, Dalbandin, Makran, Naseerabad, Mastung, Kalat and Khuzdar. Multiple courts granted bail in these cases, upholding the rule of law.
Advocate Nadia Baloch further explained that Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen of the Quetta Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had approved bail in several cases, but later some of these bails were suspended. Dr. Mahrang Baloch and his legal team appealed this decision to the Balochistan High Court, where Chief Justice Kamran Mullah Khel reserved judgment two months ago; However, no verdict has been announced yet.
According to Advocate Nadia Baloch, this situation indicates that Pakistan’s judicial system is under pressure from state institutions.
The statement also mentioned that Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her colleagues have been facing a jail trial in Hudah Jail for the past six months, where the proceedings have been neither transparent nor fair.
Advocate Nadia Baloch pointed out that the same judge who suspended their bail is now supervising the jail trial, raising questions about impartiality. Their legal team requested the case be transferred to another judge, but the request was rejected.
Advocate Nadia Baloch also said that the judge has threatened to add further charges.
She concluded that this situation not only denies justice but also poses a threat to peaceful political activists who represent the voice of their nation
