QUETTA: Balochistan National Party (BNP) President Sardar Akhtar Mengal has strongly criticized the authorities over the worsening situation in Zehri and the continued defiance of court orders concerning his travel restrictions.
In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Mengal described the ongoing blockade in Zehri as an act of “cruelty,” saying that it has deprived local residents of essential supplies and devastated their livelihoods.
“What’s happening in Zehri is not just neglect, it’s cruelty. For two months, a road blockade has cut off food, medicine and livelihood. Children are suffering, the cotton crop is destroyed and families are desperate. How long will innocent Baloch lives be held hostage to power politics?” Mengal wrote.
The BNP chief also expressed deep frustration over being barred from traveling abroad despite a court order directing the removal of his name from the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL).
“Despite the court’s clear order to remove my name from the PNIL, I’m still being barred from travelling. It’s evident that in this country, real orders don’t come from the courts,” he stated. “If judgments carry no weight and are openly defied, then perhaps the courts should just shut down permanently, because right now we are living under the law of the jungle.”
Mengal’s remarks have drawn attention to what he termed as both administrative indifference in Balochistan and growing disregard for judicial authority at the federal level.
As of now, there has been no official response from the government or the relevant authorities regarding Mengal’s allegations.
