Quetta, in the early hours of last night at around 3 a.m., Pakistani security forces raided the residence of former judge Justice (R) Zahoor Ahmed Shahwani. Eyewitnesses stated that the personnel neither presented any legal authorization nor a warrant upon entering the house.
During the raid, Justice (R) Shahwani’s son, State Counsel and lawyer Zameer Ahmed Shahwani, was forcibly taken into custody and transferred to an unknown location.
Family members described the operation as an “abduction,” emphasizing that it was not only illegal but also a blatant violation of fundamental human rights.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also strongly condemned the unlawful raid. According to their statement, on the morning of 20 August 2025, approximately 50 personnel from the Counter-Terrorism Department, accompanied by plainclothes officers, forcibly entered Justice (R) Shahwani’s residence without any legal warrant or authorization. During the raid, his son, Zameer Ahmed Shahwani, serving as a State Counsel, was taken into custody, all in violation of proper legal procedures.
The HRCP further stated that such actions represent a blatant breach of constitutional protections against arbitrary arrests and unlawful entry into private homes. Measures like these undermine public trust in law enforcement agencies and weaken the rule of law. The Commission demanded the immediate release of Mr. Shahwani and accountability for the officers involved in this operation.
