BNM Chairman Dr Naseem Baloch Pays Tribute to Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti on His Death Anniversary

Dr Naseem Baloch Geneva Conferece

PARIS: Baloch National Movement (BNM) Chairman Dr Naseem Baloch said in a statement issued on the death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti that 20 years have passed since his death, yet his name continues to hold deep significance in Balochistan’s political memory and history of resistance.

He said Nawab Akber Bugti belonged to a generation that witnessed firsthand the denial of Baloch political rights and the growing use of force against the Baloch people. In the final phase of his life, rather than abandoning his political beliefs and principles, Bugti chose to retreat into the mountains. His death in 2006, Dr. Naseem said, marked a decisive turning point in Balochistan’s contemporary history.

He said Bugti’s legacy is not limited to that of a tribal chief or a former governor. Rather, he was a politician who viewed the Balochistan issue through the lens of national identity, political authority, dignity and a nation’s right to determine its own future.

Dr. Naseem said that attempts to silence Bugti’s voice through military force failed to extinguish the questions he represented, adding that those questions remain unresolved two decades later.

Marking Bugti’s 20th death anniversary, Dr. Naseem said the BNM remembers Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti with respect and reverence.
