QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: Dr. Shalee Baloch, an organizer of the Baloch Women’s Forum (BWF), has said that the continued abduction and enforced disappearance of Baloch women has reached an “alarming and intolerable” level, in a statement citing the latest case of 20-year-old Safia Baloch.
In her statement, Dr. Shalee named several women, Habiba, Mahjabeen, Nasreena, Humaira, Najma and now Safia Baloch whom she said represent a growing pattern of Baloch women being forcibly disappeared. She said Safia Baloch was forcibly disappeared from Quetta in the early hours of Aug. 23, 2026, calling it another addition to what she described as a grave and worsening trend.
Dr Shalee said the targeting of Baloch women reflects what she called a “colonial logic of domination”, alleging that militarisation, arbitrary detention, surveillance, collective punishment and intimidation have historically been used to subjugate colonized peoples.
She said the disappearance of women from their homes is a deliberate attempt to penetrate the social fabric, instill fear among families and weaken the collective will of a nation, describing enforced disappearance as a form of political control and colonial repression rather than simple violence against individuals.
She said Safia Baloch’s case must not become “another name that society is forced to accept and forget,” demanding that her whereabouts be immediately disclosed, her safety ensured, and that she either be released or presented before an independent court through due legal process.
Dr. Shalee called on the international community to reject what she described as the normalization of enforced disappearances in Balochistan, saying the BWF would continue to demand the return of every Baloch woman who has been forcibly disappeared.
