Doctor Mahnoor critically injured in acid attack at Quetta’s Sandeman Civil Hospital; YDA threatens strike within 24 hours

Sandeman Hospital Quetta

QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: An unidentified man threw acid at Dr Mahnoor, a female doctor on duty in the surgical ward of Sandeman Civil Hospital in Quetta, leaving her critically injured before fleeing the scene. A bystander was also injured in the attack. The critically injured doctor was transferred to a private hospital for treatment. The motive behind the attack remains unknown and police have launched an investigation.

The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan strongly condemned the attack, calling it a serious security failure and demanding immediate action from the government, the health department, and police. The association called for the suspects to be charged under anti-terrorism provisions and issued a 24-hour ultimatum, warning that if no arrests are made, doctors will launch an indefinite boycott of medical services across the entire province.

Young Doctors Association (YDA) said that, “Ensuring the safety of medical staff is the responsibility of the government. If the suspects are not arrested within 24 hours, we will shut down medical services across Balochistan indefinitely.”

The YDA also demanded that comprehensive security measures be put in place for all medical staff across the province, particularly female doctors, saying the failure to protect doctors on hospital premises was wholly unacceptable.

No official response from the Balochistan government or police was available at the time of publication. This report will be updated as further details emerge.
