Quetta: A protest camp organized by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) against enforced disappearances in Balochistan continued for the 6,062nd day on Wednesday outside the Quetta Press Club. The demonstration was led by the group’s central secretary general, Hooran Baloch.
People from various walks of life visited the protest camp and expressed solidarity with the families of the missing persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Hooran Baloch said that incidents of enforced disappearances in Balochistan have increased sharply and that Baloch women are now also being targeted. She said that women MahJabeen, Nasreena, Farzana, Raheema, Hair-un-Nisa and Fatima Baloch were taken into custody by security forces from different parts of Balochistan at various times and later forcibly disappeared.
She said the families of the disappeared women have been protesting for their safe release, but despite this, neither have the women been produced nor have their families been given any information regarding their safety. She described this as a serious human rights violation and strongly condemned the practice.
VBMP demanded that the government ensure the immediate and safe release of all missing persons, particularly Baloch women. Huran Baloch also urged political parties, student organizations and human rights groups to speak out against enforced disappearances, especially those involving women, and to raise their voices against what she described as unlawful actions to help prevent such practices.
