The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has announced on Monday the death of its senior leader and long-standing member, Qazi Hashim Baloch, after a prolonged illness. Remembered as a committed activist, ideological guide, and a symbol of tireless struggle for the Baloch national cause, the party emphasized that his sacrifices, leadership, and lifelong service will remain a guiding light for the future struggle.
According to a statement by the BNM central spokesperson, Qazi Hashim was among the earliest members of the party in Jahoo, where he played a foundational role alongside Ustad Ali Jan and Dr. Manan Jan in strengthening the organization.
In August 2009, he survived an assassination attempt by state-backed death squads during a memorial event for Shaheed Altaf Baloch in Jahoo’s main bazaar. Despite serious injuries, he continued his activism. Following military operations that destroyed his ancestral village, he was forced to seek refuge in Western Balochistan but remained engaged in political work.
The statement noted that Qazi Hashim was instrumental in guiding the younger generation and fostering political awareness. In 2013, he was entrusted with a significant mission in the Surgar mountain range by then-Secretary General Dr. Mannan Baloch and current Secretary General Dil Murad Baloch. There, he built ties with Baloch shepherd communities and spread the message of resistance and national freedom, turning Surgar into a stronghold of the Baloch national struggle .
