Pakistan Sets Sights on Overseas Baloch Political Leadership Following Nokundi Attack

Pakistan Sets Sight on Baloch Overseas Activists

QUETTA: In the aftermath of the Nokundi attack, the Balochistan government has approved a sweeping crackdown targeting more than 300 individuals allegedly linked to banned militant organizations, including several leaders and commanders based overseas.

According to an official statement, the decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. The provincial administration has also ordered law-enforcement agencies to expedite prosecution in cases involving the leadership of proscribed groups such as the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), United Baloch Army (UBA), Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), Baloch Republican Army (BRA), and Lashkar-e-Balochistan.

The government has instructed authorities to accelerate the issuance of Interpol Red Notices for militant leaders residing abroad, in coordination with the federal Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials presented evidence at the meeting, including alleged communication records between overseas commanders and their local facilitators. Following the briefing, the provincial government decided to intensify action against both the suspected foreign-based leaders and their networks inside Pakistan.

However, no name has surfaced so far in this connection. Previously, the Balochistan government had placed several political activists on the Fourth Schedule, a move that was widely condemned by human rights groups.

Chief Minister Bugti said the administration was determined to expose the “true face” of individuals who, according to him, run militant networks “under the guise of political activism.” He directed that a comprehensive list of alleged leaders and facilitators be compiled and that all available evidence be added to the official record.

The statement further noted that the compiled material will be taken to relevant international forums with federal support to initiate legal proceedings against the accused.
