QUETTA, BALOCHISTAN: The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), a separatist militant group, has claimed responsibility for a series of seven attacks on security forces, police installations and infrastructure across Balochistan between August 4 and August 22, 2026.
According to the group’s statement, the attacks collectively left 11 military personnel and two “agents” individuals state-affiliated informants dead, with several others wounded. The group also said a police station and multiple vehicles were destroyed in the operations.
The BLF said its fighters attacked a Pakistani army contingent providing road security in the Kolwah and Geshkor areas of Awaran district on August 22, using heavy and automatic weapons. The group claimed the attack killed five soldiers and wounded three others, and that fighters also fired on vehicles involved in road construction work in the area. The statement further claimed that when a military helicopter arrived from a nearby camp to reinforce troops, fighters fired on it with a light machine gun, forcing it to withdraw.
In a separate incident the same day, the group said its fighters seized a police checkpoint at Shireen-o-Farhad in the Jhao area, detaining the personnel stationed there and seizing a rifle along with other equipment, before setting fire to the checkpoint and two police vehicles. The detained personnel were later released.
The group claimed that its fighters set up a roadblock for about two hours on the Bela-Jhao Road after receiving information about the movement of individuals it described as government collaborators. During this time, the group said its fighters killed two men identified in the statement as Muhammad and his son Zafar, residents of Jhao alleging they attempted to flee when confronted. The BLF said a rifle and pistol were recovered from the men and their motorcycle was set on fire.
The group’s statement about Zafar is a lengthy list of crimes, including collaboration with security forces, extortion, and involvement in the killing of a driver and a shepherd in the region over the past year. The group said Zafar had previously been summoned to appear before what it called its “organizational court” and had not complied.
The BLF said fighters also set up a blockade on a main highway in the Daghari area of Quetta on August 22, searching passing vehicles and firing on the tyres of trucks the group said were transporting minerals. The stated purpose, according to the group, was to monitor and restrict the movement of military personnel in the area.
According to the statement, on August 15, fighters detonated a remote-controlled bomb targeting a vehicle in a military convoy in the Rodinjho area of Kalat district, killing three personnel and wounding two others, the group claimed.
The group also said that, on the same day, its fighters opened fire on and damaged three bulldozers belonging to the military and its construction projects in the Yakmuch area of Chagai district.
The BLF claimed that on August 13, its fighters ambushed a military convoy in Surab using heavy and automatic weapons, killing three personnel and wounding two others.
The group said fighters surrounded and attacked a police station in the Jaheen area of Panjgur’s Paroom tehsil on August 4. According to the statement, fighters took control of the building, detained personnel present, seized weapons and equipment, and set the station on fire. The group said the detained Levies personnel were later released after being warned.
The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claims responsibility for all these attacks and says that its operations will continue until the complete independence of Balochistan.
