DERA BUGTI, BALOCHISTAN: A young man died in a landmine explosion this morning in the Yaro Pat area of Sui tehsil, Dera Bugti, Balochistan. He has been identified as Ahmed Ali, son of Ali Khan Bugti, reportedly 18 years old.
Following the incident, the victim’s family staged a sit-in with the body at China Chowk in Sui, blocking the main highway connecting Sui and Kashmore.
The affected family said that their son was killed by operatives of a “death squad” led by an individual identified as Shahnawaz Chakrani Bugti.
According to local sources, Shahnawaz Chakrani Bugti is the leader of a death squad active in the Lanjo and Saghari areas of Sui, which sources accuse of involvement in land grabbing, looting, and robbery and theft along the main highway connecting Dera Bugti to Sindh.
Sources said the affected family is itself government-backed, with several of its members holding positions within the local administration.
Regional sources further said that tribal rivalries in Dera Bugti, particularly in Sui, are being continuously fuelled by the state, claiming that both parties involved in today’s explosion those accused of carrying it out and the family affected by it receive support from state institutions through various means.
