Quetta: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has strongly condemned the prosecution of prominent human rights lawyer Advocate Emaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir and her husband Haadi Ali, calling it a blatant attack on human rights defenders.

BYC highlighted that Emaan Mazari has long supported families of forcibly disappeared individuals, defended Baloch students against racial profiling in Islamabad, and amplified marginalized voices in both national and international forums. Her work, firmly rooted in constitutional rights and civil liberties, has made her a target for fulfilling her professional and ethical responsibilities, BYC said.

The committee criticized the use of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) to prosecute Mazari and Haadi Ali, describing it as a state tactic to silence dissent. BYC stated that the timing and nature of the prosecution appear deliberate, aimed at intimidating human rights advocates.

“This case is not about accountability, but a calculated criminalization of dissent and the misuse of legal frameworks to suppress political speech,” BYC said. The organization emphasized that if a nationally recognized lawyer can face such punitive measures, ordinary Baloch civilians, students, workers, women, and families of the disappeared face even harsher repression daily.

BYC reaffirmed its solidarity with all those resisting enforced disappearances, collective punishment, and systemic discrimination, stressing that lasting peace and unity can only be achieved through justice, dialogue, and respect for fundamental human rights.
