QUETTA: A Pakistani court has granted bail to prominent Baloch rights activist Dr. Mahrang Baloch and several associates in six separate cases, her lawyers said on Tuesday.

A magistrate’s court in Mastung approved bail in two cases filed under Section 144 of the criminal code against Baloch Yakjehti Committee leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch and Beebow Baloch. Separately, an anti-terrorism court in Kalat granted bail in four additional cases registered under various anti-terrorism laws.

The cases also named Gulzadi Baloch, Sibghatullah Shah Ji and Beberg Baloch as defendants. A team of defence lawyers represented the activists in both courts, where some of the charges were also dismissed, the lawyers said.

Despite the bail orders, Baloch Yakjehti Committee Leadership remains in custody at Quetta’s Huda district jail. They were detained on March 22 under Pakistan’s Maintenance of Public Order law, which allows authorities to hold individuals without formal charges for a limited period.
