Quetta: The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) expressed grave concern on Thursday over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Zehri, Khuzdar, which has been unfolding over the past two weeks due to an ongoing military operation directly affecting civilians.
In a statement, the socio-political rights group said that the military operation has resulted in deaths, injuries and mass displacement. Quoting reports, the BYC confirmed that bombardment and shelling have killed several civilians, including two elderly women, while countless families have been rendered homeless. “Homes, standing crops, water sources and solar systems have been destroyed, threatening the very survival of the local population,” the statement added.
Shedding light on the situation, the BYC statement said that the region remains under a complete siege, with all roads blocked and supplies of food, water and medicines cut off. It further noted that hospitals lack doctors and essential medical services, while internet and communication networks remain suspended.
According to the statement, a curfew was imposed last night and house raids targeted women, children and the elderly, subjecting them to severe violence. The BYC emphasized that these are not isolated incidents but part of systematic human rights violations and possible war crimes.
The statement further condemned the ongoing media blackout and the denial of humanitarian access, describing them as deliberate attempts to conceal these crimes. It reiterated that attacking civilians, destroying infrastructure and obstructing aid are blatant violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.
